Lady Jackets win two in tournament

The Lady Jackets played in Riverdale in the State Farm Classic tournament over Christmas break winning two of their three games. They defeated Lavergne 62-20 and Smyrna 54-14 and fell to Shelbyville 68-40.
Shelbyville 68 – Lady Jackets 40
Grundy was down 13-20 at the end of the first quarter. Shelbyville took a huge lead in the second outscoring the Lady Jackets 23-8 putting them up 43-21at the half. The Lady Jackets had a low scoring third quarter putting the game out of reach for them as they fell 40-68 in their first game of the tournament.
Kristin Weaver led the Lady Jackets with 18 points with four threes. Lacy Nunley followed with 14 points with two threes. McKenzie Broadway scored four points. Teah Bosio and Kiera Hobbs had two points each.
Lady Jackets – 62 Lavergne 20
The Lady Jackets had hot shooting from behind the arc in their second game of the tournament hitting 13 threes. Grundy never let Lavergne close and dominated the entire game.
Lacy Nunley led with 25 points with seven threes. Teah Bosio scored 11 points with three threes. Ragan Meeks had seven points with a three. Kristin Weaver scored five points. McKenzie Broadway had three points. Kristen Stiefel and Meleah Stevens both hit a three pointer. Peyton Mainord scored two points and Emily Rhea tossed in one point.
Lady Jackets 54 – Smyrna 14
It was another dominating game for the Lady Jackets as they came out hot and kept a commanding lead the entire game. Grundy’s defense and offense controlled the tempo of the game and never let Smyrna get within reach.
Teah Bosio led the Lady Jackets with 15 points including three from behind the arc. McKenzie Broadway followed with 14 points. Ragan Meeks scored eight points with two threes. Kristen Stiefel had five points. Lacy Nunley and Peyton Mainord scored four points each. Kristin Weaver and Leah Hiett had two points each.
Both Grundy teams will resume season play Friday as they travel to Cumberland County. The following Tuesday they will host Marion County. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
