The Lady Jackets had better results in their Thanksgiving tournament as they won two of three games in Florida. The Jacket men dropped both games they played in the Whitwell tournament. The teams head to district play this week.

The Lady Jackets improved to 4-5 on the season and the men fell to 1-7.

“In our first game, I think we just weren’t ready to play. We traveled through the night and then when we got to the hotel the girls were just too excited to get the rest they needed. That was a decision that I made and looking back I should have given us more time to rest before we played. We started out slow and it took us until late in the third to get things going.

“The next two games we really came to play. Everyone played and worked hard while on the floor. The girls really started to see that their hard work and hustle on defense really make a difference in the game.

As we prepare for this week, I hope we can continue our intensity. We are going to need to improve our shooting percentage by improving our shot choices. And we have got to do a better job boxing out and rebounding on defense. I’ve told the girls if we can continue working hard and improve in those two areas we will be a tough team to beat,” said Lady Jackets’ Coach Julie Davis.

“We didn’t get the outcome we wanted in the tournament. We played some very competitive games losing two very close games. We are still searching for a way to win the close games. We hope to get over that hump and the sooner that happens the better off we will be,” said assistant Coach Nick Bryant.

Coach Justin Bryant was able to coach Friday’s game for the Jackets around caring for his family. “It was great to be back and coaching. The guys played hard, we were just one play away from a win,” said Bryant.

“Our defense is playing good, but we are continuing to make too many turnovers. We aren’t executing on the offensive end of the floor,” Bryant continued. “We will continue to strive to improve that. I’m super proud of the effort the guys are playing with right now.”

Coach Bryant was set to bring his new sons home from the hospital on Sunday.

Grundy traveled to Chattanooga Christian on Tuesday for their first district matchup. Today they play at Coffee County at 6:00. Friday they host Bledsoe County for another district game at 6:00. Tuesday they travel to Notre Dame for a 5:30 start. Get out and support Grundy basketball this week.
