Grundy’s girls got a new trophy for the case at GCHS over the weekend, winning the Lady Panther Classic. Grundy won five of six games over the last week to improve their overall record to 9-2 and 2-0 in the district.
“I can’t say enough about our team. The attitude this year has been great and it’s just been fun when we get together, whether it’s a practice, game or just some of Madison’s story time. We still have a long way to go to get to where we want to be, but the trip there has been nothing but fun so far.
“This weekend’s tournament win is just an example of how resilient this group is. We played five games back to back. We lost the first game of our pool play, then rattled off three wins in a row for a chance at revenge against the team that had beaten us. Harley was fresh and her pitches were dead on her spots. Liz Morgan stepped up and made some great plays from the outfield and on the bases.
“The win against Bledsoe was very much the same, Bledsoe’s bats were hot when they got off the bus, but we never panicked. Whenever we get down, our girls just start pecking away at the lead with consistent play and lots of patience. By the end of the week, we will be halfway through our season and we’ll sit down as a group and evaluate where we are, where we want to be, and how we need to improve to get there. It’s just an exciting time for softball on the mountain right now,” said Coach Jason Evans.

Thursday they travel to Dunlap to face the Lady Indians at 5 p.m. Friday they host South Pittsburg at 6 p.m. Monday they travel to North Jackson for a 5 p.m. game.
