Lady Jackets Open With District Wins

Posted on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 11:46 am

The Lady Yellow Jacket softball team got off to a hot start for the season, winning two district games last week. They ran into tougher competition in the in the Franklin County tournament Friday and Saturday

Grundy’s record stands at 2-5 overall and 2-0 in the district.

“Right now, we are pretty much right where we, as a coaching staff, thought we were. We have a strong core of a team, but due to injuries or sickness, we are just a few puzzle pieces shy of what we want to be. We had a strong opening to district play, but had some ups and downs this weekend against some non-district opponents. Although we didn’t come out of the Franklin Co tournament with a trophy, I feel like we identified some key strengths and weaknesses that we want to address.

“Our goal is to improve every day, and as long as we can identify those areas of need, I’m confident we will do exactly that. This week, we have two more district opponents and a traditionally good Whitwell team in front of their student body. So we are going back to work and looking to have a strong showing heading into our spring break,” said Coach Jason Evans.

Grundy hosted Bledsoe County Tuesday for a district matchup. Wednesday, they played at Whitwell. Today, the Lady Jackets host Sequatchie County at 5 p.m. for a district game. Friday they travel to South Pittsburg for another 5 p.m. start. The girls will take off for spring break and return to action April 5, at Signal Mountain.
