Lady Jackets lose in last seconds; Jackets fall to Huntland

Grundy basketball played two away games last week as they traveled to Huntland and St. Andrews-Sewanee. The Jackets have been on a winning streak that ended in a heartbreaker in Huntland as they fell to the Hornets 74-70. They picked up a win against St. Andrews-Sewanee with a 62-52 victory. This puts their record at 10-3 for the season. The Lady Jackets fell to Huntland in the last seconds of the game 54-53 and picked up a win at St. Andrews-Sewanee winning 72-23. This puts their record at 7-5 for the season.
Huntland 54 – Lady Jackets 53
It was a back and forth game between the Lady Jackets and Lady Hornets. The Lady Jackets were down by one at the half 25-26. They outscored the Lady Hornets in the third to give them a 43-40 lead. With eight seconds left in the fourth quarter the Lady Hornets hit a three pointer to take a one point lead and get the 54-53 victory.
Teah Bosio led the Lady Jackets with 15 points including a three. Lacy Nunley hit three treys for nine points. Peyton Mainord scored eight points. McKenzie Broadway had six points. Kristin Weaver and Delaney Hughes scored five points each with Weaver hitting a three. Kristen Stiefel hit a three pointer and Kiera Hobbs scored two points.
Huntland 74 – Jackets 70
The Jackets had a tough loss at Huntland ending their eight game winning streak. It was a tie game at 31-31 at the half. The Jackets outscore the Hornets in the third putting them up 54-56. The Hornets came out in the fourth and outscored the Jackets 28-16 giving them a 74-70 victory.
Trey Hampton led the Jackets with 18 points including five threes. Cullen Anderson followed with 14 points. Blane Harris and Kenzie Hill scored 11 points each with Hill hitting three from behind the arc. Josh Nance and Noah Bean had six points each with Bean hitting a three. Tyler Patrick hit a three pointer and Jordan Hackworth tossed in one point.
Lady Jackets 72- SAS 23
The Lady Jackets dominated on offense and defense against the Lady Mountain Lions. The Lady Jackets led the entire game with a halftime score of 30-12 and a final score of 72-23.
McKenzie Broadway led the Lady Jackets with 15 points. Kristin Weaver followed with 13 points including a three. Kiera Hobbs scored nine points. Molly Layne had eight points with two threes. Teah Bosio scored seven points including a three. Ragan Meeks and Kristen Stiefel had five points each with Meeks hitting a three. Meleah Stevens scored four points. Peyton Mainord, Delaney Hughes, and Emily Rhea all scored two points each.
Jackets 62- SAS 52
Coming off of a loss, the Jackets pulled together and picked up the win over the Mountain Lions. It was close throughout the game with the Jackets leading at the half 30-25. The Jackets held the lead the rest of the game and won with a 10 point victory.
Trey Hampton led the Jackets with 16 points with four threes. Noah Bean followed with 13 points. Cullen Anderson scored 12 points including two threes. Kenzie Hill had seven points with a three. Blane Harris scored six points. Josh Nance had four points. Jaden Nance hit a three pointer and Corbin Lusk scored one point.
Season play will start back on January 5 with an away game to Cumberland County. During Christmas break the Lady Jackets will be heading to Riverdale for the State Farm Classic.
