The Lady Jackets had a short week last week due to spring break. Their only game of the week was a district matchup against the Marion County Lady Warriors losing 8-1.
“Our defense is improving as we progress into the season. Our games are a lot closer competitively than the scores have been showing. We have now started to lock up positions that were up for grabs and are playing a lot more sound. Once we are able to eliminate the silly errors, our season will turn around in a hurry.
“We have been working hard and our defense is finally starting to come together as a unit. They have really started to communicate and begin working together. We will have plenty of opportunities this week to further fine tune things as we play Whitwell on Tuesday, South Pittsburg on Wednesday then travel to Lookout Valley on Friday and Saturday for our first tournament of the year,” says Coach Evans.
Marion Co 8 Lady Jackets 1
The Lady Warriors of Marion County jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Lady Jackets held them to no runs in the second and third but were unable to take advantage and score. Grundy’s only run came in the sixth inning after a triple from Teah Bosio put her in scoring position and a single from Bailee Sweeton for the RBI. Sweeton took the loss in the circle allowing 8 runs with only 3 of those being earned runs.
Bosio led at the plate hitting 2 for 3 with a triple and a run scored. Sweeton went 1 for 3 with a RBI. Emma Seagroves and Kristin Weaver both hit 1 for 3. Meleah Stevens was 1 for 2.
The Lady Jackets will play in the Lookout Valley Tournament this weekend for their first tournament of the season. Monday they will host Bledsoe County for a 5:30 district matchup. Tuesday they will face district rival Sequatchie County at home with a 5:00 start time.
