The Grundy County Lady Jacket softball team dropped two decisions last week. They lost to the Lady Warriors of Marion County in a District 7 AA contest 10 – 0 in five innings on the road last Tuesday. Last Wednesday, the Lady Jackets stepped out of district play and lost an 8 – 1 contest to their visitors from Moore County.

The Lady Jackets were to host Cumberland County on Tuesday and Whitwell yesterday (Wednesday) in front of the student body. Today (Thursday), the Lady Jackets travel to Dunlap to take on District 7 AA leaders, Sequatchie County at 5 p.m.  Next Tuesday, the team will travel to Pikeville to take on the Lady Warriors of Bledsoe County at 5 p.m., in another district tilt.

The Lady Jackets are 2 – 7 on the season and 0 – 4 in District 7 AA play.

The Lady Jackets couldn’t get any offense going against the Lady Warriors as they were limited to three hits. Senior Meleah Stevens had a good day going 2 – 2 with a double and two stolen bases. Sophomore Destiny Stevens got the other hit, a single, for the Lady Jackets as they dropped their fourth district game in as many decisions.

The Lady Jackets surrendered all 8 runs in the first three innings and then shut out their visitors the remainder of the game. However, once again a woeful offense couldn’t support the late inning defensive stand, as they managed only a single run in the seventh inning. Meleah Stevens and junior catcher Emma Seagroves managed extra base hits for the Lady Jackets offense. Stevens doubled and Seagroves tripled. Seagroves tripled in the seventh and scored on freshman Jenna Helton’s ground out to second to avoid the shut out.
