The Grundy County Lady Jackets bowed out of the District 7-AA tournament in heartbreaking fashion, as the Chattanooga Christian Lady Chargers rallied to defeat the Lady Jackets 48 -47. The loss brought to a close a tumultuous season for the Lady Jackets with a 6 – 21 record.
The Lady Jackets jumped out to an 8 – 0 lead behind three-pointers by Kristin Weaver and Lacy Nunley. They extended the lead to nine at 16 – 7 after one quarter. Teah Bosio’s buzzer beating three-pointer gave the Jackets their nine-point lead back at halftime at 28- 19.
The Lady Jacket built the lead to 38 – 23 with 4:50 remaining in the third quarter and lead 41- 31 after three quarters. Nunley made back-to-back baskets with 5:03 left to put the Lady Jackets back up by 13 at 45 – 32. Weaver made a putback with 3:55 left for a 47 – 35 lead. However, those would be the last points the Lady Jackets dropped as the Lady Chargers scored the final 13 points to pull out the victory.
Nunley led the Lady Jackets with 23 points. Weaver and Bosio scored 10 points each to help the Lady Jacket cause.
The team loses three seniors in Haylee Northcutt, Kelsey Harriman, and Rebekah Barrett. They return several underclassmen that can help lead them into the 2017-18 season. Hopefully, off the court issues that have seemed to distract the team down the stretch can be cleared up and the Lady Jackets can concentrate on playing basketball for the next season.
