Tied 9-9 after one the Lady Jackets inched away from the Lady Warriors through the second and 006third quarters. They used their six-point lead to hold off a fourth quarter Bledsoe rally and take the district win.

“We played hard Friday night and got a much needed win to keep pace and pull ahead of Sequatchie County. We have to win out and or get help from Bledsoe to keep our second place standing. That’s important because it will keep us in position to automatically go to the region,” said Coach Jonathan Shedd.

MiKayla Williams led Grundy with 26 points including three treys. Lacy Nunley followed with 11 hitting a three. Madison Burrows scored 10 with two threes. Kristin Weaver, Kylan Layne Pickett and Teah Bosio scored two points each.

018The Jackets just can’t catch a break. They opened strong against the Warriors taking a 26-12 lead after one quarter. They gave 10 points of that lead back in the second quarter and saw the game go to double overtime before the lost by two.

“My kids started out strong. We scored 26 points in the first quarter. We were shooting the ball really well. In the second quarter we had an offensive lapse and only scored six points. Third and fourth quarters we were very solid. Our problem once again is we have to finish ball games. When we’re leading the majority of the game we have to finish out. We didn’t do that and we allowed Bledsoe to get back in it especially in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, we just couldn’t get it done in two overtimes,” said Coach Jerry Brown.

Trey Hampton scored 27 to lead Grundy with four three pointers. Boo Goins and Johnny Adkins had 13 each to follow with Adkins hitting a three. Kenzie Hill scored nine all off three pointers. Blane Harris scored two points and Cullen Anderson had one.
