Lady Jackets and Jackets win one and drop two

After a week off due to snow and freezing temperatures, Grundy basketball returned to the hardwood. Both Grundy teams went 1-3 for the week. The Lady Jackets picked up a win over Marion County 51-42 and lost to Cumberland County 76-51 and Coffee County 67-27. The Jackets also picked up a win over Marion County 83-71 and lost to Cumberland County 70-57 and Coffee County 59-54.
Lady Jackets 51 – Marion Co. 42
The Lady Jackets jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the first quarter. They added to the lead in the second quarter and had a 22-15 lead at the half. Marion County outscored the Lady Jackets in the third bringing the score to 31-27 with the Lady Jackets still in the lead. Seniors Lacy Nunley and Teah Bosio went for a combined 18 points in the third to seal the win over the Lady Warriors 51-42.
Bosio led the Lady Jackets with 20 points including two from behind the arc. Nunley followed with 19 points with three treys. Mckenzie Broadway scored seven points. Ragan Meeks hit a three pointer. Delaney Hughes had two points.
Jackets 83 – Marion Co. 71
It was a close first half for the Jackets and the Warriors with a tie game at the end of the first quarter and the Jackets having a one point lead at the half 31-30. Grundy outscored Marion in the third quarter stretching their lead to 55-49. The Jackets continued outscoring the Warriors in the fourth as they put 28 more points on the board giving them an 83-71 win.
Cullen Anderson led the Jackets with 21 points with one three. Trey Hampton followed with 20 points with three from behind the arc. Noah Bean had 15 points. Blane Harris scored 11 points. Corbin Lusk had 10 points. Kenzie Hill scored five points including one three. Jordan Hackworth tossed in one point.
Cumberland Co. 76 – Lady Jackets 51
The Cumberland County Lady Jets jumped out to 29-9 lead in the first quarter. The Lady Jackets kept the scoring close in the second, third, and fourth quarter but could not overcome the deficit as they fell to the Lady Jets 76-51.
Lacy Nunley led the Lady Jackets with 28 points including four threes. Teah Bosio scored nine points with one three. Ragan Meeks had eight points with two threes. Peyton Mainord scored four points and Kiera Hobbs had two points.
Cumberland Co. 70 – Jackets 57
The Jackets had the lead 11-9 at the end of the first quarter but trailed 24-25 at the half. The Jackets continued to battle in the second half but never could regain the lead as they fell 57-70 to the Jets.
Trey Hampton led the Jackets with 22 points with three from behind the arc. Noah Bean scored nine points. Blane Harris had eight points. Josh Nance scored six points. Corbin Lusk and Kenzie Hill had four points each with Hill hitting a three. Cullen Anderson and Jordan Hackworth scored two points each.
Coffee Co. 67 – Lady Jackets 27
It was a tough night for the Lady Jackets as they never could find their rhythm against a tough Coffee County team. Grundy’s offense suffered without senior shooter Kristin Weaver, who is out with an injury, and couldn’t seem to find their way to the goal. Coffee County controlled the entire game and took the 67-27 victory.
Teah Bosio led the Lady Jackets with 10 points including two threes. Kiera Hobbs followed with six points. Kristen Stiefel scored five points. Delaney Hughes had four points and Lacy Nunley scored two points.
Coffee Co. 59 – Jackets 54
The Jackets had the lead after the first quarter of play 10-7. At the half, Coffee County had taken a 27-22 lead. The Jackets continued battling and outscored the Rebels 20-18 in the fourth but it wasn’t enough to regain the lead.
Trey Hampton led the Jackets with 20 points including three threes. Noah Bean followed with 16 points. Cullen Anderson had nine points. Kenzie Hill scored five points. Josh Nance had two points. Blane Harris and Corbin Lusk tossed in one point each.
Grundy will travel to Bledsoe County on Thursday night and host Sequatchie County on Monday night. Tuesday will be senior night for the players and cheerleaders as they host Richard Hardy High School. Game time is at 6:00 p.m.
