Both Grundy teams got back to action after the holidays Friday night as they traveled to Cumberland County. The Lady Jackets and Jackets both fell to the Jets with the girls’ team losing 70-35 and the boys’ team losing 82-56. The Lady Jackets are now 9-9 for the season and the Jackets are 10-4 for the season.
Cumberland Co. 70 – Lady Jackets 35
After winning two games in a row, the Lady Jackets couldn’t find their rhythm on offense. Grundy was down 34-20 going in to the second half of the game. The Lady Jets defense was too tough to overcome giving Grundy a 35-70 loss.
Kristin Weaver led with seven points with a three. McKenzie Broadway followed with six points. Peyton Mainord and Kristen Stiefel scored five points each with both hitting a three pointer. Delaney Hughes scored four points. Teah Bosio and Lacy Nunley both hit a three pointer. Kiera Hobbs had two points.
Cumberland Co. 82 – Jackets – 56
It was a tough night on the court for the Jackets. Playing without senior Trey Hampton, the Jackets just couldn’t gain the lead. The Jets lead at the half 36-22 and continued pilling on the points in the second half giving the Jackets their first district loss.
Blane Harris led the Jackets with 16 points hitting a three. Noah Bean followed with 15 points. Josh Nance and Cullen Anderson scored six points each. Corbin Lusk had five points. Kenzie Hill and Tyler Patrick both hit a three pointer. Jordan Hackworth scored two points.
Grundy played Marion Tuesday night but stats were not available at press time. Friday night will be a huge home game for Grundy as they host their rival Sequatchie County. They will also host SAS on Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
