The Lady Jackets fell in the district tournament finals Monday night but they will advance into the region tourney beginning next Monday. They will be on the road and their likely opponent will be DeKalb County.
Grundy won three of their last five, moving their record to 15-10 overall.
Coach Jason Evans is excited for his team to advance to the region.
“We knew the last part of our schedule would be the toughest part of our schedule. We’ve been in every game with chances to win. Our goal was to be ready for tournament play and we were.
“Tonight we committed some errors in the third, but the girls kept believing in themselves. We had chances in the seventh with bases. We were in a position to win. As long as the girls continue to put themselves in the place to win it’s going to happen. It hasn’t happened yet but it’s going to,” said Coach Evans Monday night.
Grundy awaits the end of the District 8 tournament to determine where they will play on Monday.
“We’re thinking it will be DeKalb County. They’ve had the best record in their district all year. We haven’t played them this year but we have played six times in the last two years. We’re excited to make to the region. It’s a big deal for Grundy softball and we hope the community will come out and support that. We’ve earned a lot of respect from area teams in how they handle themselves and how they play,” added Evans.
