The Grundy County Democratic Party is hosting an early voting kickoff event, “Kicking for a Cause,” at Coalmont Community Center on October 14, at 5:30 p.m.

The party will be serving homemade chili, hotdogs, desserts, and drinks. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, party leaders will be raising funds for the Grundy County Food Bank. Entrance into the event is a $5 or greater donation to the Grundy County Food Bank or five cans of food.

The Grundy County Food Bank feeds many families in Grundy County and the organization is always in need of help to raise funds to purchase food, especially around the holidays.

Representative Kevin Dunlap, Mike Winton, nominee for State Senate (16th District), and Steven Reynolds, nominee for US Congress (4th Congressional District), and various city candidates on the November ballot have been invited to speak at the event.

Executive Committee member Tim Spicer will present a service award from the party. Past presentations have honored Representative Bill Harmon, County Trustee Lucyle Hampton, Circuit Court Clerk Marcia Bess, and Executive Committee member Alene “Shorty” Sanders.
