Grundy County High School Principal and Ath-letic Director Charlie Westmoreland introduced new Lady Jacket Softball head coach Kelly Kennedy to players and parents Friday afternoon, at a meet and greet in the school’s cafeteria. There was a good turnout of high school and middle school players and parents in the audience.
The new coach is a graduate of Tennessee Tech. Coach Kennedy has a master’s degree in Sports Management. She played three years for the Lady Eagle softball team winning an OVC championship in 2015. She started her career at the University of Illinois – Chicago as a freshman. She transferred to Tech and played her final three years. She caught and played first base throughout her career.
Coach Kennedy spent the last two years as a graduate assistant for the Lady Eagle softball program, while she obtained her master’s degree in the Exercise Science department.
The new coach takes over for Jason Evans, who resigned his position to take the helm of the South Pittsburg softball program. She will hit the ground running. She had a work day last Saturday on the field and had middle school tryouts this past Monday. Middle school play days are slated for tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday at Whitwell High School. The Lady Jackets are slated to play at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., on Satur-day.
Coach Kennedy is look-ing forward to getting started and told the group she would handle the middle school by herself and be looking to put her staff together for high school softball, later.
Coach Kennedy will teach physical education and wellness at GCHS.
