Jury Returns Verdict in Comer Case

Posted on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 4:04 pm

A jury has returned a verdict in the Shelby Comer murder case. After deliberating for over 5 hours, the jury found Mike Holmes guilty of Criminally Negligent Homicide.

On Wednesday, the Judge Graham threw out the charge of Voluntary Homicide after the State did not meet the required standards for that charge. The jury was left to decide between Reckless Homicide and Criminally Negligent Homicide (with Reckless Homicide being the more serious of two charges).

Holmes will be sentenced on April 3. The verdict of Criminally Negligent Homicide carries a sentence of one to two years. This sentence can result in immediate probation, a partial prison sentence, or a full prison sentence.
