junior jacketsThe Junior Jackets started their season off with a bang crushing Dayton City on the road by a 31-0 score. The team hosts Bledsoe Thursday at 6:00 at John A. Anderson Field for their first home game.

“Starting the season with a win always feels good. I am really proud of my boys and my assistant coaches. Both have put in many hours of hard work and it feels great to see them rewarded. I see lots of room for improvement in all three facets of the game, so we are going to keep working to improve on our fundamental skills,” said Coach Casey Tate.

“Our defense is playing a little better than our offense right now and that’s okay. The offense is progressing and the veer takes thousands of reps to perfect so I anticipated some growing pains, but we have to improve our special teams. I take blame for us being so fundamentally unsound on special teams. I should have worked them more in the summer, but my assistant coaches and myself will get those mistakes corrected.

“I have a team of hard working players and coaches so we are going to get back at teaching as coaches and getting better as players and get ready for Bledsoe County. I also want to thank former standout Yellow Jacket placekicker Travis Creighton for taking a couple of hours during his visit home this weekend to work with our placekicker Bailey Hill. He worked with him on fundamental drills and stretches that will help him become a better kicker. I think the biggest grin I had all night in Dayton was when Bailey hit his first PAT, and to see him working extra over the weekend with a former Jacket was great,” said Tate.

Offensively, Josh Wingo led the way with seven rushes for 138 yards and two TDs. Ethan Nunley rushed six times for 48 yards and a TD. Kollyn Cooper had three carries for 27 yards and a TD. Hunter Sylvester ran three times for 14 yards. Brayden Sanders had one attempt for 12 yards.

Ethan Nunley completed of 1 of 2 passes for 21 yards to Kollyn Cooper.

On defense Josh Wingo had 5 tackles and a fumble return for a 48 yard touchdown. Hagen Cash, Johnie Adkins and BrandonLe Bennett all had 3 tackles each. Hunter Sylvester, Grayson Lawson, Kollyn Cooper, Nicky Johnson and J.D. Anderson notched 2 tackles each. Jory Scissom, Hunter Northcutt and Cameron Elsea had 1 tackle each.

On special teams, Bailey Hill was 1 of 4 on extra-point kicks. Jaden Ruehling had 16 yards on a punt return and Evan Nunley returned one for 12 yards.
