Grundy’s Junior Jacket team had a great scrimmage last Thursday downing Moore County in Tracy City by four touchdowns to none. Head Coach Casey Tate was very pleased with his team’s performance and the play of several individual players.
“We played confused but physical which I was glad to see. This team continues to show up and put in the work required to win football games. The assistant coaches continue to help these kids improve every day. In the end we have to improve the offensive line because we will only go as far as our offensive line takes us,” said Tate.
The Junior Jackets brought the “Gold Hats” back to John A. Anderson Field for the first time in 17 years and fans were excited to see the group represent Grundy on the field so many had before.
The offensive leaders for Grundy in the scrimmage win in rushing were: Ethan Nunley with 7 rushes for 57 yards and a TD; Josh Wingo with 6 for 53 yards; Hunter Sylvester with 2 for 18; Kollyn Cooper with 1 for 15 and Grant Dees with 2 for 11.
In passing Ethan Nunley completed 4 of 6 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns. Braden Sanders hit 2 of 3 for 23 yards.
Johnnie Atkins led in receiving with two catches for 118 yards and a score. Josh Wingo also caught two passes for 73 yards and a TD.
