Junior Jackets Notch Fifth Win

football2The Junior Jackets continued to roll over the competition and crushed Bledsoe Middle School 46-14 last Thursday in Pikeville. Grundy is now 5-0 on the season.

“We came out and played our most complete game yet. It’s always tough playing a team twice in one year, and our first game was close all the way until the fourth quarter. Bledsoe’s game plan was to slow Josh Wingo down on offense and they did a good job. The yards Josh got tonight were hard earned, and he was unable to get into the end zone.

“With them focusing on Josh our team talent was showcased. Brayden Sanders and Isaac Carreto were able to contribute in a big way offensively. Their play combined with Ethan Nunley managing the offense allowed us to put up 46 points. Josh Wingo was a force again on defense, but we missed Kollyn Cooper’s sure tackling on the perimeter on several occasions.

“Right now I’m proud of these guys but we have some fundamental issues to correct over this bye week so that we can be ready to play Marion and Whitwell,” said Coach Casey Tate.

Ethan Nunley led the offense with 10 rushes for 86 yards and 2 touchdowns. He completed 3 of 5 in passing for 72 yards and a TD. Isaac Carreto exploded for 4 rushes for 167 yards and 3 TDs. Braden Sanders was diverse with 2 rushes for 52 yards and a TD, 1 of 1 in passing for 26 yards and a reception for 56 yards and a score. Josh Wingo had 7 rushes for 94 yards. Johnie Adkins had 2 receptions for 29 yards. Evan Nunley caught one pass for 10 yards. Hunter Sylvester had 2 rushes for 8 yards.

Josh Wingo led the defense with 11 tackles. Braden Sanders made 5 stops. Evan Nunley notched 3 tackles and an interception. Grant Dees also had 3 tackles. Ethan Nunley, Hagen Cash, Brandon Le Bennett, Johnie Adkins and Isaac Carreto made 2 tackles each. Chase Meeks, Todd Meeks, Cameron Elsea, Nicky Johnson and Jaden Ruehling all had one tackle each. Summer Dees recovered a fumble.
