Jr Jackets Close Out Season; Tate Sets New Record

The Jr Jackets closed out their season at Whitwell Middle School with a win over the Tigers. As usual the young Jackets had great support from their fans to rally them to a 54- 22 victory. This wasn’t the season the Jackets had hoped for with a 4-3 record, but only having 23 players and injuries all season they closed out with a good record.
“This team had to meet adversity from different aspects all year and these kids would not give up. They arose to the challenge all year. Sequatchie Co. was the only game that our kids just didn’t fare well and we just got started off to a bad game right out of the box. All of the Coaches would like to thank the sponsors, fans and parents for their support this year,” stated Coach Graham.
Dawson Misiolek led the defense at Whitwell with Tuner Cash, Gavin Tate, Merrell, Clay Parker, Alex Beherl and Parker Geier following up the effort. The offense attack was a combined effort of Tate, Cash, Rollins, Huntley and Meeks behind a strong offensive line anchored by center Dylan Merrell, Geier, Matt Borne, Misiolek, Nick Campbell, Austin Higgins and Parker. Wide receivers, Isbell, Meeks, James and Cranfield also made some great blocks to spring Tate, Cash and Rollins on some long runs.
Tate led the offense with 317 yards in 9 carries. Cash had 12 totes for 109 yards. Rollins with 6 carries for 55 yards. Huntley had 3 totes for 5 yards and was 3 for 3 on passing. Gunner Meeks had one reception for 3 yards.
Behind a great offensive line and other team members, Gavin Tate rushed for a record 2,005 rushing yards in 129 carries in 7 games with a total of 2,275 all-purpose yards for the season. This was a Grundy County Middle School record that was previously held by Josh Wingo. Tate gives credit for his record season to his teammates, the offense line and running backs Turner Cash and Michael Rollins.
Over the past four years the Jr Jackets have had a winning season with a 22-7 record and only 3 loses at home and one District Championship.
Next year’s team will be led by an experienced offensive line behind the leadership of Merrell, Geier, Campbell and Bradley Painter. Logan Isbell will also be returning at wide receiver. This is a very good group of boys returning to lead the Jr Jackets into another season.
