Grundy baseball may have had a slow start dropping their first two games of the season but they caught fire in the South Pittsburg classic. They won all five games in the tourney taking the title Saturday night in South Pittsburg. On Monday they took the win streak to six crushing Bledsoe County. The Jackets are now 6-2 on the season.
“I really like the direction our team is heading. We talked about all off-season about focusing on the process and not getting to caught up in the immediate results. After the first week of the season behind us, I feel like that our kids are focused on the process of getting better. We started out with two tough loses to DeKalb County and Whitwell. In both those games we were our own worst enemy.
We made a lot of mistakes but the problem was we were making mistakes because we were thinking about our last mistake. Baseball is a sport where you need to have short- term memory. You want to avoid the roller coaster effect where you get to low when things are going poorly or getting to high when things are going well. The kids are buying into this mindset. Their focus is on winning the day every day and improving each day. Understanding the big picture and that is to be playing our best baseball in May,” said Coach Chase Jones after Monday’s win.
Tuesday the Jackets faced Sequatchie in their second game of the Tennessee Valley Classic. Today they play against Chattanooga Christian at Signal Mountain at 5:30. Friday they play Signal Mountain at 3:15 and Notre Dame at 5:00 both at Signal Mountain in the tourney. Monday begins the first regular district games with Bledsoe County on the Mountain at 5:00. Tuesday Grundy travels to Bledsoe for the same start time. Get out and support the Yellow Jackets this week Yellow Jacket fans!
