Grundy notched seven wins against just one loss last week. Those wins included winning the Mountain Valley Classic tourney. Grundy is now 19-4 on the season and 5-2 in district play.
“The two wins over Bledsoe Wednesday helped us in the district. In the first game, Dallas Bryan walked the first batter and threw a perfect game after that. We downed Cannon on Thursday and then fell to Marion Friday. Chandler Knight pitched a good game – we just had one of those nights where we couldn’t get anything going. Everything we hit seemed to find leather. You have to take your hats off to Marion. They made every play.
“We came back yesterday and won two to get to today and then beat DeKalb to reach the finals. In the championship, we came out and the kids were on fire. It’s a fine line for me of when to call it off with the kids. It was 10-0 and I wanted our younger guys to get some experience so I made some line changes. And, our guys didn’t do badly but when you do that you change the whole momentum and the whole complexion of the game.
“I put them in too early. That’s one of those things that you ask yourself what’s the right thing. The way the championship game ended up as close as it did is strictly because of me. But, our guys found a way to pull it out. It was our tournament and it means a lot to our kids. Hopefully it gives us momentum going into next week,” said Coach Chase Jones on Sunday.
“We’re fighting for the #2 seed in the tournament. Tonight’s win against Notre Dame was a big win to help secure that,” said Coach Jones Monday night.
