Grundy boys are on a hot streak winning their last eight games. The Jackets put two wins in the book last week defeating Franklin County and Bledsoe County. Their record now stands at 9-2 for the season. The Lady Jackets lost their two games putting their record at 6-4 for the season.
Franklin Co 52
Lady Jackets 15
It was a tough night for the Lady Jackets as they had a hard time finding their rhythm without their senior point guard, Teah Bosio, who was out with an injury. The Lady Rebels controlled the game from the beginning and took a commanding victory over the Lady Jackets.
Lacy Nunley led Grundy with ten points. McKenzie Broadway and Kiera Hobbs scored two points. Emily Rhea had one point.
Franklin Co 60
It was a close game from start to finish between the Jackets and the Rebels. The Jackets were down by one at halftime but came back in the third to take a six point lead heading in to the fourth. After hitting some crucial free throws the Jackets got the win over the Rebels.
Trey Hampton led the Jackets with 16 points. Noah Bean followed with 14 points. Cullen Anderson had 12 points. Corbin Lusk scored eight points. Blane Harris had seven points. Kenzie Hill scored four points. Tyler Patrick hit a three pointer and Josh Nance tossed in two points.
“This was a great win for my guys. We are playing with a lot of intensity and it shows. There were some very important free throws we had to make down the stretch which put the game out of reach for Franklin,” said head coach Kevin Butner.
Bledsoe Co 61
Lady Jackets 40
It was another tough loss for the Lady Jackets as they fell to Lady Warriors. Down by ten at the half, the Lady Jackets just couldn’t find a way to take the lead.
Teah Bosio led the Lady Jackets with 11 points including a three. Kristin Weaver followed with ten points. Peyton Mainord scored six points. Delaney Hughes had five points. McKenzie Broadway scored four points. Lacy Nunley and Kiera Hobbs had two points each.
Bledsoe Co 32
The Jackets went in at the half with only a 19-15 lead but came out in third and gave the fans a show. Putting up 37 points in the third and holding the Warriors to only six points, the Jackets took a huge lead to pick up another district win.
Trey Hampton led the Jackets with 17 points including two three pointers. Noah Bean followed with 15 points. Kenzie Hill scored 13 points with a three. Blane Harris had six points. Jordan Hackworth hit two thee pointers. Tyler Patrick scored five points. Corbin Lusk had four points. Josh Nance and Cullen Anderson scored three points each. Cody Esslinger had two points.
“Coming in to the game I knew it would be a challenge due to the change in routine for my guys. We came out slow the first half, what I call going through the motions. At halftime we made some adjustments with the main focus being on our effort and intensity. The third quarter the boys really put on a show for the fans scoring 37 points,” says head coach Kevin Butner.
“Not only did the boys play with intensity and heart, they were having fun doing it. There’s purity in watching the game being played that way that excites everyone. It was a great district win that we have to build on. Grundy up!”
Grundy played Saint Andrews-Sewanee Wednesday night and will be back in action on January 5.
