Jackets Struggle dropping Four Straight

Posted on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 10:26 am

It’s been a tough week for the Yellow Jacket men as they lost all four games they played. The bright spot was the “Pink out” games with Marion County, where around $4,000 was raised for the Miracle on the Mountain Play Park and in remembrance of GCHS faculty Audrey Nunley. Marion County aided this cause by donating their gate money from the game in the valley.

“Being young we’ve been up and down. Tuesday, we kind of blinked a little bit and CCS jumped on us pretty good and we never really made a ball game of it. We had the cancer awareness games with Marion County which was a tremendous fundraiser for Miracle on the Mountain and for Audrey. We ended up coming out on the losing end of both of those. We both were pretty low on pitching. We battled close but we couldn’t find a breakthrough run.

“Tonight as far as heart and competitive spirit I love these kids to death. You have to give credit to their relief pitcher but we were able to get three runs on base. Brady did a good job putting good aluminum on it but the shortstop made a good play cutting it off in the 5-6 hole. That’s the way it goes.

“Our message to the team is if we get this effort and this execution when we get into post season play we’ve got a shot,” said Coach Chase Jones.

Tuesday Grundy traveled to Signal Mountain. Today they host Huntland for Senior Night at 6 p.m. Monday they host South Pittsburg at 1 p.m., for a game in front of the student body. Tuesday they travel to South Pittsburg for a game starting at 6 p.m.
