Jackets start district tourney with a win
The Jackets baseball team played their last regular season game against South Pittsburg losing 5-3 last week. The District Tournament started on Friday night with the Jackets sweeping Marion County 11-1 and 12-5 to advance to the championship game.
South Pittsburg 5
The Jackets lost a tough one on Senior Night against the South Pittsburg Pirates. Grundy was only able to score 3 runs off of their 8 hits. Blane Harris started on the mound for the Jackets pitching the first 2 innings only giving up 1 hit and striking out 1. Casen King pitched the next 4 innings giving up 5 hits, 3 runs, and striking out 1. Braxton Norris suffered the loss facing the first 4 batters in the seventh inning, giving up 3 hits and 2 runs. Kenzie Hill finished the game not giving up any hits.
Harris and Noah Bean hit 2 for 4. Harris had 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Bean scored a run and had a RBI. Trey Hampton, Alex Killian, and Evan Jaynes were all 1 for 3. Hill was 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs.
Marion Co. 1
Grundy put the first game of the District Tournament away in only 5 innings. Blane Harris scored the first run of the game in the first inning off of a single from Kenzie Hill. The Jackets scored 2 more runs in the second inning and 1 in the fourth bringing the score to 4-1. The fifth inning was a hitting fest by the Jackets getting 7 hits including triples from Trey Hampton and Noah Bean and a double to end the game early from Alex Killian. Blane Harris got the win on the mound only giving up 1 hit and 1 run while striking out 6.
Harris led at the plate for the Jackets hitting 4 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 4 runs scored. Killian and Hill were 3 for 4 and both with a double. Hill had 2 RBIs and Killian had one RBI and a run scored. Bean and Hampton hit 2 for 4, both with a triple, 2 RBIs, and a run scored. Jaden Ruehling and Evan Jaynes went 1 for 2 with both scoring a run. Ethan Chouinard was 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Jacob Thomas scored a run.
Marion Co. 5
The Jackets scored 1 in the first inning off of a single from Noah Bean and 1 in the second. They put 2 more on the board in the third for a 2-1 lead. Marion County got 3 across in the fourth but the Jackets countered with 4 runs to maintain the lead. Grundy sealed the win with 4 more runs in the seventh to sweep the Warriors and advance in the tournament. Jacob Thomas notched the win pitching the first 3 and two-thirds innings, giving up 4 hits and 4 runs while striking out 1. Jayden Markum came in for relief giving up 1 hit and 1 run while striking out 3. Evan Jaynes finished the game not giving up any hits.

Trey Hampton, Alex Killian, Jaden Ruehling, and Thomas were all 1 for 4. Hampton had a triple, a RBI, and 2 runs scored. Killian notched a RBI and a run scored. Thomas had a RBI and 2 runs scored. Ruehling scored a run and Ethan Chouinard scored 2 runs.
