Jackets Rolling Through District Foes

Posted on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 10:46 am

The young and rebuilding Yellow Jackets are stacking up district foes as they have rolled up three wins against no losses in the district. Grundy won 3 of the 4 they played over the last week and are over .500 for the season. The Jackets are 8-7 on the season and 3-0 in District 7AA.

“We’re still up and down. The winning part of it is great. The one game we lost was a learning experience for a young team. We jumped out on Huntland 6-0 in two innings and then just kind of lost our focus at the plate offensively and they ended up winning 8-7.

“Even with the loss that’s probably the most important game we played of the four just for the fact for a young team they’ve got to learn that when you jump out on a team you can’t take a break. Hopefully we’ll learn from that.

BB 1“We’re getting quality innings from a lot of young pitchers. We’re getting a lot of young pitchers a lot of experience. I’m proud of them. Like I said from the get-go, I didn’t know what kind of baseball players we had, but I think we’re going to have some really good ones before it’s all said and done. But I knew we had a lot of great kids and this is a very enjoyable team to be around. When the kids are having fun and it’s spontaneous with each other and encouraging each other it makes this game a whole lot easier and that’s what they’re doing right now,” said Coach Chase Jones.

Grundy hosted Notre Dame Tuesday. Today, they play in the Rebel Classic at Franklin County against St. Mary, Kentucky at 7:15 p.m. Friday, they play Upperman in the tournament at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, they play hosts Franklin County at 5:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, it’s district action against Bledsoe County. Monday the Warriors are on the mountain for a 5 p.m. start and Tuesday Grundy goes to the valley for the same start time.
