The Yellow Jackets have been on a hot streak early winning their first seven games before losing a heartbreaker Monday night. Grundy won against Huntland 9-1 and South Pittsburg 5-3. They lost to district opponent Cumberland County 9-8.
Jackets 9 Huntland 1
Grundy gave up one run in the first inning for Huntland’s only score of the game. The Jackets scored 3 in the third, 2 in the sixth, and 4 in the seventh for the 9-1 win. Jacob Thomas got the win on the mound pitching the first five innings giving up 6 hits and striking out 6. Blane Harris came in for the save giving up 1 hit and striking out 2.
Noah Bean led at the plate hitting 2 for 4 with a homerun, 3 RBIs, and scored 2 runs. Alex Killian hit 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. Thomas went 2 for 3 with a RBI, a stolen base and a 2 runs scored. Ethan Chouinard was 1 for 3 and scored a run. Kenzie Hill hit 1 for 4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Harris, Trey Hampton, and Steven Yates were all 1 for 4 with Harris scoring a run and Hampton getting a RBI. Evan Jaynes had a stolen base and scored a run.
Jackets 5 South Pittsburg 3
Grundy jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings. South Pittsburg scored 3 runs in the third for their only runs of the game. Grundy put one more on the board in the sixth to take a 5-3 win over the Pirates. Steven Yates got the win on the mound giving up 6 hits and striking out 2.
Blane Harris hit 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs, a stolen base and a run scored. Noah Bean was 2 for 4 with a double, a RBI, and a run scored. Tyler Patrick went 2 for 3 with a double, a RBI, a stolen base and scored a run. Alex Killian and Yates were 1 for 3 with Killian getting a RBI and Yates scoring a run. Kenzie Hill hit 1 for 2 and scored a run.
Cumberland Co 9 Jackets 8
The Jackets had a 6-0 lead after two innings of play. Cumberland County scored 4 in the third and put 3 more on the board in the fourth to Grundy’s 1 bringing the game to a tie at 7-7. The score was still tied at the top of the sixth when Cumberland County added 2 more runs. Grundy was only able to add one more run in the seventh and suffered their first loss of the season. Blane Harris was on the mound in the first 5 innings giving up 8 hits and striking out 8. Casen King pitched the last 2 innings giving up 2 hits while striking out 3.
Noah Bean led at the plate going 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs, and scoring a 2 runs. Evan Jaynes was 3 for 4 with a triple and a RBI. Harris hit 3 for 5 and scored 2 runs. Trey Hampton and Alex Killian were 2 for 4 with Hampton getting 2 RBIs and Killian getting 1. Ethan Chouinard hit 2 for 4, stole a base, and scored a run. Tyler Patrick was 1 for 4 with a RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored. Kenzie Hill scored a run.
The Yellow Jackets played Cumberland County again Tuesday and will be playing in the Community Viking Classic Tournament this weekend. Monday and Tuesday they will play district opponent Bledsoe with Tuesday night’s game being at home. Game time is at 5:30 p.m.
