Another imperfect week is in the books for the Yellow Jackets as they went 4-3, but won all three district games they played. The team is dangerously close to securing a bye for the first round of the district tournament in May. The Jackets improved to 13-13 on the season and 6-1 in the district.
“It was up and down. The series with Bledsoe, we got the sweep against them, which we definitely needed. In our tournament, we played Coffee County pretty well and were able to come out with a one run victory against them. We came out on Friday and just didn’t play well at all in any phase of the game. Just about any mistake that you can make we made.
“The Cumberland County game they came out and scored four on us in the first inning and we brought Kollyn Cooper in, one of our freshmen, and he was lights out. He learned how to throw a change-up on Thursday and had it mastered Saturday when he was pitching. He probably threw it 15-20 times. It was his out pitch and he really couldn’t have thrown any better. They ended up winning 4-1 but we definitely found another guy to increase depth in our pitching,” said Coach Chase Jones.
Tuesday the Jackets hosted Chattanooga Christian. Today they host Marion County at 5 p.m., and it’s a “Pink Out” game to raise money for the Miracle on the Mountain Play Park.
