Jackets end regular season with a win; District Tourney begins

Grundy basketball finished up their regular season on the road in Moore County. The Lady Jackets fell to the Lady Raiders 68-41. They finished 13-12 for the regular season and third in the district. The Jackets picked up a win defeating the Raiders 55-52. They finished their regular season 16-6 overall and second in the district behind Cumberland County.

The Lady Raiders of Moore County raced out to a large lead in the first half at 41-13 over the Lady Jackets. The Lady Jackets were able to find more offense in the second half but they couldn’t slow down the offense of the Lady Raiders.
Kristin Weaver led the Lady Jackets with 12 points including four threes. Kristen Stiefel scored 6 points on two threes. Peyton Mainord, McKenzie Broadway, Delaney Hughes, and Emily Rhea all had 4 points each. Laci Nunley scored 3 points. Kiera Hobbs and Ragan Meeks tossed in 2 points each.

Grundy had the lead 12-9 after the first quarter. Moore County tied it up by the half at 18-18. The Jackets put up 20 points in the third giving them a 38-32 lead. The Jackets were able to hang on to their lead in the fourth for the win in a very close game.
Kenzie Hill led the Jackets with 12 points including two from behind the arc. Noah Bean followed with 11 points. Trey Hampton hit three from downtown for 9 points. Josh Nance had 8 points. Blane Harris scored 7 points including a three. Cullen Anderson had 4 points. Jordan Hackworth hit a three pointer and Corbin Lusk tossed in one point.
“To look back it’s amazing how far we have come,” says head coach Kevin Butner. “The past two years the program has come a long way. There is such an enjoyment watching the Yellow Jackets play with such heart and intensity. I’ve always told my guys there’s a purity in watching the game when we have fun and play hard. With the regular season ending it’s important we refocus on the little things in order for big things to happen. Grundy Up!”
The third seeded Lady Jackets played second seeded Bledsoe County Tuesday night in the district tournament. The second seeded Jackets will play in the district tournament tonight (Thursday) against third seeded Sequatchie County at 7:30. Consolation and championship games will be held Friday night for the girls and Saturday night for the boys. All district tournament games are being held at Bledsoe County High School.
