The Grundy County Yellow Jacket baseball team had a light week as they traveled to Whitwell to take on the Tigers. The Jackets won the game 11 – 6 and turn their attention to District 7-AA as they get set to start district play Monday. Meanwhile, the Jackets travel to Huntland today for a jv/varsity doubleheader. The jv game starts at 4:30 p.m., and the varsity game starts at 6:30 p.m. The jv team will host St. Andrews – Sewanee tomorrow at 5 p.m. Monday, district play starts at Sequatchie County at 5 p.m. Tuesday, the teams will meet at GCHS for the second game of the series. That game will be at 5 p.m., as well. The Jackets are 3 – 3 on the season.
The Jackets spotted their hosts three unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning, but doubled up the Tigers in the top of the second with six runs. The big blow came from senior catcher Kaleb Meeks as he belted a grand slam. The Jackets would add four more runs in the sixth and one in the seventh for their 11 runs. The Tigers added a single run in the second and two runs in the seventh.
Blaine Harris went 2 – 3 and scored a run. Casen King went 2 – 4 with a double and a run scored. Meeks was 1 – 3 with his homer and four RBIs. He also scored two runs.
Harris started and went three innings giving up no earned runs. King went the final four innings striking out nine Tiger batters in an impressive stint on the mound.
