The Grundy County Yellow Jackets were in a defensive battle Friday night in Coalmont against the Bledsoe County Warriors. Both teams played well on defense and both punters saw plenty of action. The Warriors scored on their first play from scrimmage making that the only touchdown of the night.
The Jackets made their way inside the 20 yard line twice but couldn’t make it in the end zone. Their first came at the end of the first half, but after having two passes fall incomplete in the end zone the first half came to an end. The Jackets would move back into the red zone in the 4th quarter, but would have a quarterback scramble end the drive on 4th down.
The second half saw both defenses limit the others offense. Bledsoe’s punter gave Grundy a field of 90 yards to go for a score on three different occasions. The Warriors were able to move close enough to kick 2 field goals in the second half making the final score 13-0.
“Bledsoe played us hard and it was a defensive game. We had one mistake on defense and it was the first and second play of the game. We got it fixed and the defense played great after that.
“We have to find some consistency on Offense and continue to perfect the fundamentals and execute as a unit. The kids are playing hard and fundamentals and execution are something that the coaching staff and I will continue working with these kids on,” says Coach Tate.

The Jackets will travel tomorrow night to take on the Dekalb Tigers. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. After traveling to Smithville the Jackets will have a week off.
“Dekalb is a team that has played some good competition this year and I know it will be a challenge for us, but we have to stay the course and continue working hard. I know these kids will continue being blue collar workers and show up to play,” added Tate.
Grundy is 1-3 overall and there is still a lot of football to be played. Our Jackets and their coaches have been working hard all season and need all the fan support they can get. If you see one of these young men out stop and give them some positive words. Let’s encourage them and show them the fan support that they deserve.
