Jackets Close Out Season

The GCHS Yellow Jackets suited up for their last game of the 2017 season Friday night as they traveled to Smith County High School. After losing to the Owls 39-0, the Jackets end their season with a 3-7 record. This would make 3 consecutive years Grundy missed the playoffs.
As the game started, Grundy won the toss, but decided to defer to the second half. The opening kick of the game was an onside kick recovered by the Jackets. Again, the Jackets started off the game strong but never could connect on offense. Defensively, Grundy looked good but Smith County ultimately wore them down throughout the game.
Interim Head Coach Nick Meeks stated, “The players wanted to play for Grundy County, their parents, coaches, and most of all for their teammates. This group of young men are very special and I expect great things out of all of them in the future.”
Evan Nunley had 120 total yards on the night with 5 tackles. Corbin Lusk, Trey Hampton and Casen King all had 8 solos each. Evan Jaynes had 7 tackles. Jordan Hackworth had 5 stops. Ethan Nunley, Blane Harris and Josh Nance had 4 stops each. Ethan Chouinard, Zac Campbell, Nicky Johnson and Dakota Stiefel had one a each.
There is a lot of work ahead of the Jackets as they prepare for the 2018 season. As they head to the off season, uncertainty still remains with this program as to who will lead the Jackets next year as head coach. This will be a rebuilding and regrouping time for the Jackets.
