Head Coach Tracy Hayworth is preparing for his second season at the helm of the Grundy County Yellow Jacket football team entering the 2019 season. Coach Hayworth took the job in mid-July of 2018 and went 1 – 9 with a very young team. There were some bright spots along the way that gave hope for the future with so many young players having to be thrown into the fire.
Coach Hayworth has had 38 – 40 players working out and that isn’t counting baseball players and incoming freshmen. He hopes to have at least 15 freshmen to join his ranks this summer. He concluded spring practice last week without a scrimmage.
He said, “I wanted to get this young group fundamentally prepared with our offense and defense. We didn’t scrimmage for this reason, I felt repetition on our fundamentals were more important at this time.”
Coach Hayworth hopes to have a couple of scrimmages this fall with Huntland and Lookout Valley. The Jackets will continue to work in the weight room in June up to the “Dead Period” to get prepared for the season. After they return from the time off, it will be time to get geared up for the season.
As usual, it will be a daunting task of a schedule to pull out victories. There are some new faces on the schedule, which include a couple of old familiar faces. The schedule looks like this:
