The Grundy County Yellow Jacket baseball team won the first game against Bledsoe County in their “Best of Three” series last Friday night at Grundy County High School 2 – 0 behind the strong pitching of sophomore Alex Killian. After rain wiped out their game in Pikeville on Saturday, the Jackets traveled to Bledsoe County on Monday and dropped a 9 – 3 decision to the Warriors.
The series shifted back to Grundy County Tuesday night for the rubber game of the match to see who would advance to Wednesday night’s championship game and more importantly the Region 4 AA tournament that will begin on Monday.
Sequatchie County and Marion County were in a similar situation as they each won a game and the deciding third game was to be played at Sequatchie County Tuesday, as well.
Jackets 2 BCHS 0
The Jackets scored two runs in the bottom of the second and Killian made it stand with a two hitter. He fanned 13 Warriors, while walking two and hitting one batter. Offensively, the Jackets managed only six hits but got run scoring singles by Bailey Hill and Jaden Ruehling in the second inning that scored Ethan Chouinard and Steven Yates, who had singled and doubled, respectively. Ruehling had two hits, while Jarom Huntley had the other hit.
BCHS 9 Jackets 3
On Monday night, the Jackets jumped out to a 2 – 0 lead behind a run scoring single by Killian and a run scoring double by Chouinard. The host Warriors took the lead with a run in the second and two runs in the third, before sealing the victory with five runs in the fourth inning to even the series at one game each. Killian had two hits including a double and scored two of the three Jacket runs. They scored their other run in the top of the sixth that was answered by the Warriors in the home half of the sixth for the 9 – 3 final.
The Jackets won on Tuesday night advancing them to the championship game that was held last night at Sequatchie County. Those stats were unavailable at press time. The win Tuesday night also advances the Jackets to the region tournament. They will play a team from District 8 AA. If they win the district tournament they will host the region semi-final, if they lose, they will travel.
