A Hillsboro man is being held in the Coffee County Jail on first-degree murder charges after he allegedly killed another man on April 4.
The murdered man was identified as Brooks after an autopsy was performed Thursday and positive ID was gained from it.
According to Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, Wednesday afternoon around 4:45 p.m., Capt. Frank Watkins received information “of a possible homicide” at 962 A Street in Hillsboro.
When deputies arrived, they spoke with Elliott and told him that they had a report of possible homicide at the residence. He gave deputies permission to search the property and they found the body of a man in his 40s to early 50s on the property. The body had been covered with numerous items.
According to Sheriff’s spokesman Lucky Knott, Elliott allegedly gave investigators “a confession of why he killed the man.”
According to a warrant obtained by Investigator James Sherrill, Elliott said that he killed the man because the man had been beating Elliot’s dog.
Elliott allegedly told Sherrill that he hit the victim four times in the head with a breaker bar and shot him several times with a .22 caliber rifle.
Elliott is being held in the Coffee County Jail without bond. His next court date has been set for April 14.
