Payton Hargis, of Tracy City, has been indicted for Vehicular Homicide and Driver Intoxication in the July 2019 death of Chasten Britton. He turned himself into the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office this morning (March 11) and has since been released on bond.
On July 4, Chasten Britton, 20, of Skymont, was killed in an ATV crash in Grundy County. Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum reported at the time that the crash occurred around 10 p.m., on Independence Day, along Dutchtown Road in Tracy City.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Chasten was the passenger in a Polaris Razor driven by Payton Hargis. The side-by-side went off the road and hit a tree. Chasten died on the scene, and Payton was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital. He was treated at both Erlanger and The Shepherd Center in Atlanta. After his release form the Shepherd Center, he returned to Grundy County where he is currently living and working.
