Hampton breaks Boys’ GCHS Scoring Record

Senior Trey Hampton has had a stellar career as a Grundy County Yellow Jacket the past four years. He finished his time on the court for Grundy with 1,617 total points setting a new scoring record for GCHS boys’ basketball. Trey not only broke the boys’ GCHS scoring record, he broke the record for most three-pointers made in a game his freshman year hitting 12 threes in a game against Chattanooga Christian on his home court.
Trey began his career at GCHS starting as a freshman and helped lead the team to many wins with his hot shooting and leadership that he brought to the team. He has continued to lead the Yellow Jackets on the court while racking up his record setting points. He started every game during his four years and put up an astounding 400 points his freshman year, 473 points his sophomore year, 311 points his junior year, and 433 points his senior year -including a total of 259 three-pointers made in those four years. He also received All District honors all four years.
Trey is an all-around athlete who not only played basketball at GCHS all four years but also played three other sports. He has played baseball the past three years and will be taking the field again this year for his final season. He played two years of football where he received Region Punter of the Year. He played one year on the golf team.
Trey has left his mark and records at GCHS and will always be remembered by his teammates and the fans for his shooting, his rebounding, his hustle, his will to win, his teamwork, his leadership, and his love for the game, all while wearing the purple and gold.
