Hall Of Fame Nominations

Posted on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 1:08 pm

The Grundy County High School Sports Hall of Fame committee met Monday night and they have opened the nomination process for next year’s class of inductees. The public may nominate former players, coaches, teams and contributors who were outstanding in their time with GCHS sports programs.

The nomination period will be during the month of March and all nominations must be at Grundy County High School no later than the close of business on March 28, 2014. They may be hand delivered or mailed to the school at 24970 SR 108, Coalmont, TN 37313.

To be eligible to become a GCHS Hall of Fame member male and female athletes must have graduated from Grundy County High School, be at least 25 years old with the exception of death preventing nominees from fulfilling the graduation and age requirements. They also may not have a felony criminal record.

Someone who is nominated as a coach or a contributor is not required to have graduated from GCHS but may not have a felony record. Teams nominated will be considered as a whole based on their achievements in play.

Anyone submitting a nomination must provide all needed information on the nomination included but not limited to: current contact information for the nominee, statistics, records, honors and other information that explains why the nominee is worthy of being voted into the hall of fame.

When nominating a contributor, persons should list what the contributor has done to promote and or support athletic programs at GCHS.

Members of the committee wanted to point out to the public that they know there are many more worthy candidates out there for the Hall of Fame. “We don’t want anyone to think that anyone who has been inducted already is any more or less worthy of being included in the Hall of Fame than those who are yet to be nominated. We came together and came to a consensus on very good candidates to get this thing off the ground. Now it’s up to the public to help the Hall continue to grow. We look forward to all the nominations to come,” said one member.

Those inducted into the GCHS Hall of Fame this year will become voting members for this next round of nominations, but to clarify the 1998 Lady Jackets basketball team will have just one vote as a whole and not a vote for each member of the team. They will have to come together to decide their vote.

So the nomination process is now open to any and all that care about the history of Grundy County High School sports. Get your nominations in to GCHS by March 28, and help decide the 2014-2015 Class of the GCHS Sports Hall of Fame.
