Moore Co. 60 – Grundy 48
Down by six after one the Lady Jackets battled and tied the game at 25-25 by halftime. The defense couldn’t hold up in the second half though and Moore County inched away to the 12 point win.
“The second half we just didn’t stop the drive. We let them drive over the top of us, into the middle several times past two or three people for a layup. We didn’t box out and there were several rebounds we missed. We just didn’t play like we should have.
“Some of the girls said they had to do more than they could do and that’s one of the things we’ve tried to stress is that you can’t do more than you’re capable of. When you try and do more than you’re capable of it doesn’t look good. Several times we’re trying to go out and jump at the ball and they just go right past us.
“I feel like the girls played really hard it’s just defensively we’ve got to get better and be more disciplined in what we’re doing,” said Coach Julie Davis.
MiKayla Williams and Peyton Eads led Grundy with 15 points each with Williams hitting three treys. Madison Burrows followed with seven. Teah Bosio had five. Kelsey Arbuckle notched four and Hannah Phillips had two.
Moore Co. 48 – Grundy 36
This game remained close through the first half. Grundy trailed by four after one but cut it to three by halftime. Defense dominated the third quarter with Moore outscoring the Jackets 8-2. Grundy continued to battle but just couldn’t get the shots to fall.
“We played a decent game tonight. The third quarter we struggled offensively. That’s what hurt us. We didn’t hit a field goal in the third quarter. I told the guys we played very good defense but struggled on the offensive end. That’s what we have to work on. We just couldn’t hit shots tonight. Sometimes it’s just like that and they won’t fall.
“It’s a tough loss against a team that is a pretty good team. We’ll just continue to work on our offense and hopefully come back and play Bledsoe better next Friday. We hope to fine tune things,” said Coach Justin Bryant.
Trey Hampton topped the Jackets with 10 points including a three. Terrince Bramhall followed with eight. Tanner Smartt scored six. Jacob Martin and Boo Goins scored four points each while Trevor and Trent Hampton added two each.
