After 10 years without a county fair, a group of local individuals is working to bring the popular event back to Grundy County. Tabitha Meeks, president of the Grundy County Fair, stated, “The fair used to be a huge event for the county, bringing in people from all over. It’s sad that it ever went away. We want to bring it back to its former glory.”
The first county fair took place in 1923 in the Summerfield community. It has had a long history, reaching its height in popularity from the 1950s through the 1970’s. The last fair took place in 2005, in Tracy City.
“It has been quite a learning experience trying to get the fair started again. We really would have no chance without all the sponsors and people in the community contributing either time or money to the cause”, said Meeks.
The fair will be at the Gruetli-Laager Recreational Park from August 8-13.
