GCXC traveled to Arrowhead Ranch last week, along with eleven other schools for a beautiful run in Normandy. John David Dickerson, II, was trailed for the first two miles of the race by a Coffee County runner, but Dickerson pulled away during the third mile and won the race with a new personal record (PR) of 17:38. Both Dickerson and Jathan Campbell finished the race as medalists, but several other runners set personal records for themselves at this meet. The men’s team finished third overall at the meet.
On Saturday, September 26, GCXC traveled to the Sharp Springs Invitational in Smyrna to compete against thirty other Middle Tennessee schools. This was once again a PR day for many of the runners. John David Dickerson broke 17 minutes for the 5K, with an outstanding time of 16:48.
Caleb Grimes, Brandon Nunley, Tyler Shrum, and Sebastian Ledford also set PRs at this meet. Clarissa Meeks and Trinity Curtis improved upon their previous times at this course as well. At the awards ceremony, Dickerson received second place in the silver division of AA schools, and the men’s team finished sixth among AA schools.
GCXC does not have any scheduled meets this week, but they are rigorously training for their first meet at GCHS on Thursday, October 8 at 4 p.m. They would like to encourage the community to come out and support this rapidly growing sport. No half times. No substitutions. No half times. No timeouts. Go run!
