A participant of the recent Grundy County Special Olympics included Ross Sissom, the son of Susan Sissom of Palmer. Ross has autism and is nearing his last year in high school at Grundy County High School. Although he is 21, due to his disability, he was able to stay in school. Ross has accomplished quite a bit with the help of his teachers, friends, and the community. In 2012 his class voted him Homecoming King and Most Popular. His dream is to be an artist and already has one art show under his belt. “As his mother, I am grateful for the support of our community,” said Ms. Sissom, who is the Director of the Palmer Public Library. “Lisa Phipps and Melanie Church were Ross’s teachers and I would like to recognize them and Grundy County High School for their work and support with special needs individuals.”
