The Grundy County School Board proposed a payment of $750,000 into the County’s Debt Service Fund (for the 2015/2016 Fiscal Year) to the Grundy County Commission last week. With approval from the commission, school board members voted on Monday to make the payment for the upcoming FY.
While the commission had hoped to have the board agree to long-term yearly payments, it is illegal to bind future boards to a continuing agreement. The school board’s lawyer recommended a payment for this FY, with future payments to be voted on yearly.
“We would like to thank the County Commission for their patience and efforts during this budget cycle,” stated Director of Schools Willie Childers. “We look forward to working together as we invest in our public schools and our County’s future.”
