Grundy basketball traveled to Sequatchie County for one of their biggest rivalry games of the year. This was their first district matchup of the season. Both Grundy teams played spoiler to their host with the Lady Jackets winning 63-45 and the Jackets winning 65-59.
Lady Jackets 63 – Sequatchie 45
The lady Jackets hit the court hot outscoring the Lady Indians 17-5 in the first quarter. They continued their lead with a 35-21 score at the half. The second half of the game was no different as the Lady Jackets kept racking up the points with their hot shooting with a total of nine three pointers in the game.
Lacy Nunley had two of those threes and led the Lady Jackets with 19 points. Kristin Weaver followed with 17 including five threes. Peyton Mainord had eight points. Teah Bosio hit two three pointers for six points. McKenzie Broadway also scored six points. Ragan Meeks had four points and Kristen Stiefel hit three foul shots.
Jackets 65 – Sequatchie 59
The Jackets battled for the win from the beginning in a physical game where 58 total foul shots were shot. The Jackets were up 38-31 at the half but the Indians came back and had a one point lead at the end of the third quarter. The Jackets took over and controlled the court in the fourth quarter outscoring the Indians 16-9 giving them a 65-59 victory over their rival.
Trey Hampton was on fire and led the Jackets with 21 points including three from behind the arc. Noah Bean followed with 13 points. Josh Nance had eight points. Corbin Lusk scored seven points. Blane Harris had six points with a three. Jordan Hackworth scored four points. Tyler Patrick and Cullen Anderson both hit a three pointer.
Grundy played Franklin County Tuesday night but stats were not available at press time. Friday night Grundy will host Bledsoe County in a district game. Tuesday they will travel to Huntland. Tipoff is at 6:00 p.m.
