Gruetli Laager Mayor Kelly Gibbs says that the City of Gruetli-Laager will be shutting down the playground at the walking trail.
“The playground will be closed until we can get the company from Chattanooga that put it up to come over and see if it can be saved,” stated Gibbs. “We have had multiple reports of rotten wood and other various safety concerns and we certainly do not want anybody to get hurt.”
The playground is over fifteen years old and it has slowly dilapidated over the years.
“We have tried to replace a board or two here or there. However, the city cannot simply go in and replace certain parts of the playground as it must be done by the company that built it in order for it to be safe for our kids,” explained Gibbs.
“I’m very sorry to have to shut the playground down just as warm weather is finally getting here, but the city feels that it’s for the best. Hopefully, this will just be a temporary shutdown. We will know more about our options when we get some bid estimates to restore the playground equipment. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work through this process.”
