The 2016 season kicked off for the GCXC with a season opener at Warren County High School on September 6. Competing against seven other schools in sweltering heat, the Yellow Jackets ran a good race. The only medalist was Jadan Campbell, a ninth grader, who is proving to be a very strong runner.
On September 9, the team traveled to Saint Andrews-Sewanee where they competed against eight other schools, including Coffee, Franklin, and Lincoln counties. The top male finisher for Grundy was Jathan Campbell (20:15). The other GCXC male finishers were Chris Nance (20:27), Caleb Grimes (22:32), Sebastian Ledford (22:34), Quaid Anderson (23:16), Kase Johnson (24:28), Cole Sanders (25:40), Kyler Prater (28:25), Brody Morrison (30:31), and McKenzie Dickerson (34:39). The top female finisher was Jadan Campbell (28:05); other female finishers were Shanda Thomas (29:49) and Clarissa Meeks (31:57).
On September 13, the team traveled to Coffee County where Jathan Campbell finished 10th with a time of 19:20, and Jadan Campbell finished 11th with a time of 25:55. Other team times were Chris Nance (20:22), Caleb Grimes (22:30), Quaid Anderson (22:38), Sebastian Ledford (23:23), Kase Johnson (24:13), Kyler Prater (25:15), Cole Sanders (25:22), Shanda Thomas (29:20), and McKenzie Dickerson (35:23).
The meet at Webb on September 15, was the most successful meet thus far with four medalists: Of the males, Jathan Campbell finished ninth and Chris Nance finished 10th. With the females, Jadan Campbell finished third and Shanda Thomas finished 11th.
This week the GCXC team traveled to Arrowhead Ranch, but no results were available at press time.
