Though Grundy County High School has had a boys’ cross country team for the past five years, they never had enough girls to compete as a team. All of that changed this year, and on September 7, the GCHS girls’ cross country team entered the annals of GCHS sports history by capturing a first place victory.
Jadan Campbell, the only veteran on the team, finished the race in fifth place. Directly behind her was Makayla Kirby who finished in sixth place. Next was Sarah Barrett who finished in eighth place. Kennedy Brady, Luisa Holzafpel, and Emily Stiefel were quick to cross the finish line as well which gave the girls a team score of 74-the best score of the nine schools present.
The boys’ race was dominated once again by Leo Penne who finished first. Chris Nance had an outstanding race finishing in seventh place. Rounding out the top five for Grundy were Jaron Meeks, Sebastian Ledford, and Tyler Shrum.
No half-times, no substitutions, no time outs! Go run!
