After a second place finish at Warren County, GCXC was anxious for another cross-country meet. On September 8, the team traveled to Sewanee for a meet with Coffee County, Franklin County, St. Andrews, Webb School, and Warren County. For the second week in a row, John David Dickerson, II, dominated and finished first overall with a time of 19:14.
Counting toward the team score were the first five GCXC finishers: Jathan Campbell-fourth (20:08), Austin Campbell-seventh (20:38), Matthew McFarland-sixteenth (22:01), and Caleb Grimes-eighteenth (22:24). These finishes totaled to a team score of 46, just edging out Warren County who finished second with a team score of 47. This first place win was GCXC’s first of the season.
Grundy’s younger runners are showing improvement and discipline with each race and are coming on strong.
For the ladies’ race, two GCXC runners finished in the top ten: Clarissa Meeks-sixth (28:43) and Shanda Thomas-eighth (29:33). Since the GCXC ladies’ team only has four runners, they are unable to compete as a team.
This week GCXC traveled to Coffee County and St. Andrews, but no scores were available at press time. No half times. No substitutions. No time-outs. Go run!
