GCXC Closes Great Season

GCXC closes seasonUpon joining the Mid-State Cross Country Association this year, the GC Cross Country team was unsure of what to expect, but they had no idea this would be their most successful season.  In 2012 Dr. Dickerson introduced the cross country program to GCHS, and it became an official TSSAA sport at the high school.  The first race in 2012 featured four runners; this year ten runners participated and established themselves as tough competitors.During eight meets this season, the team received three first place wins, four second place wins, and one fifth place win.  GCXC had individual medalists in every meet.  Since this is only their third season as a team, these results are phenomenal. On Thursday, the GCXC traveled to Cookeville High School for the region where they competed against 90 runners from thirteen schools.  Julie Nance finished 29th with a time of 24:46.  This was Julie’s last race, and she is to be celebrated as she has been the only female GCXC runner for three years.  Male finishers were John David Dickerson-15th (18:43); Jathan Campbell-25th (18:56); JC Beene-47th (20:53); Austin Campbell-49th (20:57); Matthew McFarland-57th (21:38); Brandon Nunley-60th (21:45); and Caleb Grimes-69th (22:43). All of the male runners are underclassmen and should be returning to the team next year.  Any males or females who are interested in joining GCXC should contact Mrs. Karen Dickerson at GCHS.  No half times.  No substitutions.  No timeouts.  GO RUN!
