Every fall, saddle clubs from across the state and southern Kentucky make their way to Lebanon, TN to compete in three days of grueling competition at the Tennessee Saddle Club Association State Championships. Top riders from each club compete in various events against other top riders in their respective divisions for championship buckles and trophies. Competition is fierce with some classes boasting more than 100 exhibitors vying for the champion title. The Grundy County Saddle Club was well represented with twelve youth and adults competing this year.
The Tennessee Saddle Club Association consists of more than 35 saddle clubs from Tennessee and southern Kentucky. Each year, those clubs compete on their home turf during the regular show season for a chance to stake their claim at the state finals later that year.
Representing the Grundy County Saddle Club for the 2020 Finals were the following: Ethan Bell, Maddie Brewer, Heather Clark, Lillian Clark, Sabrina Hammond, Kylan Pickett, Dalton Stamper, Elly Stamper, Kirklan Stockwell, Hannah Tate, Alvia Tyree and Roby Tyree. Several of the GCSC members had respectable placings in the top 20 of their divisions. Two youth members brought home four top ten honors. Maddie Brewer captured a 1st place State Championship buckle in halter with 42 exhibitors, a 4th place trophy in Hunter under Saddle, and a 3rd place trophy in Western Pleasure. Roby Tyree blazed the competition in figure 8 barrels to secure an 8th place trophy in a heated class of 106 competitors.
The Grundy County Saddle Club is extremely proud of these exhibitors and wish them well as they start preparing for next year’s finals. The GCSC would also like to thank all the sponsors, exhibitors and spectators that support our local club. Without you, our saddle club would not exist.
