Once again, Grundy County High School will be represented at the Tennessee High School State Swimming and Diving Championships.
Alexa Fults swam at the Middle Tennessee High School Swim Association Region Championships hosted by Excel Aquatics on Friday, January 30, at the Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville.
High school swimmers, grades 9 through 12, are allowed to swim only two individual events in a high school meet. Alexa chose to swim the 100 yd. Freestyle and the 200 yd. Freestyle. Of the 148 Middle Tennessee girls swimming the 100 yd. freestyle, Alexa and thirty-four other girls made the state qualifying time of 1:00.59 or less, and are eligible to swim in the state championship.
Of the sixty-five girls swimming the 200 yd. freestyle, Alexa is one of the twenty-five girls who made the state cut of 2:14.19. Bettering the other girls in her heat, she won first place with a time of 2:11:90.
Alexa and the other Middle Tennessee qualifiers will join swimmers who qualified from East Tennessee and West Tennessee to compete at the TISCA Tennessee State High School Swimming and Diving Championships on February 13 and 14. Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville will host the championship. Alexa will swim the 200 yd. freestyle on Friday and the 100 yd. freestyle on Saturday.
Alexa, a sophomore at GCHS, is the daughter of Randy and Sherri Fults of Hubbard’s Cove. She looks forward to the two-day competition and the opportunity to swim again in her favorite pools at the University of Tennessee.
